½ day Medical Gasses Training (MGC)


Brief Overview:
The overall aim of the medical
gas training is to provide the students
with sufficient knowledge and skills to
enable them to safely handle, store and
administer medical gases using various
equipment such as pocket masks and
bag-valve-masks.
This course can be tailored to
address other areas of Medical gas
administration such as:-
Analgesic Gases (A 50%-50% mixture of
Nitrous oxide and oxygen gas (also known
as 'gas and air' or Entonox) has been
available for many years and is an
excellent method of providing short-term
pain relief and relaxation during a
number of painful procedures.
Cyanide poisoning (Many
cyanide-containing compounds are highly
toxic, but some are not, The most
dangerous cyanides are hydrogen
cyanide).
Hydrofluoric acid poisoning
(Hydrofluoric acid is corrosive and a
contact poison).
Learning Outcomes:
Recognise and understand the
importance and correct procedure for the
safe storage and use of medical gasses
during casualty treatment.
Course content

Understand safety issues when storing/using cylinders.

Understand basic anatomy of respiratory/cardiac systems.

Airway Management
-
Administer oxygen therapy.
-
Use of oxygen with an adjunct to aid resuscitation.

Dealing with an unconscious casualty (Adult)
-
Practical scenario training.
Delivery Method:
Didactic, PowerPoint (including video
clips), Group Work (buzz groups and
practical scenarios).
Target Audience:
Any member of staff that require this in
relation to their job role.

Delivered In House (Training venues can
be arranged, phone for details)
Length:
4 hours (½ day)
Frequency:
Annually (Every 12 months) Or as per
company policy / guidelines
Any associated award:
A training provider certificate valid
for 12 months issued on completion of
assessment.
